2021 Young Georgia Authors System Level Winners

Six GCSS students were announced as winners of the Young Georgia Authors' (YGA) writing competition. The competition provides a platform for young writers to develop their enthusiasm and expertise in writing while recognizing student achievement in arts and academics. Entries include short stories, poetry, essays/literary criticism/analysis, journalism, academic/research reports, personal narratives, and any original student writing. Sponsored by the Georgia Council of Teachers of English (GCTE) with support from the Georgia Department of Education, the YGA competition has been engaging Georgia students for more than two decades and is open to any student enrolled in Georgia public schools, grades K -12. "Writing is one of the most important skills students learn," says Dr. Leigh Sears, Director of Elementary Schools. "Writing improves communication, sharpens creativity, and is vital to academic success."
