We have completed CRCT testing. The students and teachers worked really hard and are to be congratulated for their efforts. Scores are expected before the school year ends on May 23. Students who pass the CRCT will be treated to an ice cream party and students who exceed will attend a cook-out. Students are also vying to win a PSP (meets standards) or Wii System (exceeds standards). As the school year winds down, please be assured that we will continue our instructional focus until the very last day of school. Teachers and students will continue working on standards not yet mastered, as well as acceleration for students who have mastered the standards. Attendance remains a top priority. Make sure your child is on time and present each day. |
Parenting Tips… Here are some ways to make sure your child gets to school every day—on time: · Get your child to bed on time. A sleepy child can’t get up. · Stay in touch with the school. If you know that there’s a science test on Tuesday, help your child study, don’t let him stay home. · Let your child see that you value education. Tell him that when he misses a day of school, he’s missing the opportunity to learn new things. · Don’t make it fun when your child does stay home from school. Make a rule that there will be no TV or video games. Reprinted with permission |

Writing: Suggest that your child write in a journal. Even one paragraph daily will help her write faster and more fluently---- important for tests with a time limit. Estimation: Stretch your child’s math sense by encouraging her to make estimations. For example, she can estimate the grocery bill as you shop by rounding the prices and adding them together. Being able to estimate will help her know whether an answer is reasonable and allow her to make smart guesses. Computation: Occasionally, time your youngster when she does addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division problems. Example: you might give her 10 minutes to do 10 problems. She’ll get used to working under pressure. |
