Allen Creek Soccer Complex-Go 129 S.  past Burger King & Cargill.  Cross I-985. Go to second light after you cross the bridge.  Turn right on Monroe Drive .  Complex will be approximately one mile on left.
Apple Mountain Golf Course-Go Highway 985 to 365.  Go 441 N. in Cornelia. Go 2.5miles north of the Tom Arrendale interchange (where 365 & 17 go to Toccoa). Take left on Hollywood Hills Road .  Follow the signs to Apple Mountain .
Buford High School-I-985 South to Exit 8.  Turn right at the end of ramp.  After turning right, go to the third traffic light, and turn left onto Buford Highway .  Just before Buford Highway turns into a four lane, turn right onto Sawnee Ave. - should be a sign saying Buford High School .  School is up the hill (about 1/4 mile) on the right.  2750 Sawnee Ave
ChattahoocheeGolf Course-Go Highway 60 ( Thompson Bridge Road ) across the first bridge.  Go to the second light (just before you get to Ingles Shopping Center ).  Turn left.  Clubhouse will be on left.
Clayton County Performing Arts Center-Go I-985 S. to I-85 S.  Take Exit 95 to I-285 East.  Merge onto I 695 via Exit 52 toward Macon.  Go 17.96 miles. Take US23/GA 42, Exit 2.  Turn right on GA 42.  Turn left onto Fielder Road.  Go 2 miles & turn right on Mt. Zion Parkway.  2530 Mt. Zion Parkway, Jonesboro.
Dawson County High School : Take Highway 53 past 400.  Approximately 5 1/2 miles.  2nd red light past 400.  Take right onto Perimeter Road .  Go to 3rd drive.
Flowery Branch High School-Take 985 South to Spout Springs Road exit.  Turn left at the end of the exit ramp.  Go 2.5 miles.  School is on left hand side of road.  6603 Spout Springs Road.
Habersham Central High School-Go north on I-985.  It will become Ga. 365.  Continue north until you come to the Clarkesville/Mt Airy exit (Hwy. 197) which is just past mile marker #49.  Exit there and at the end of the exit ramp, turn right.  Habersham Central is 0.3 miles on the right.  
Ivey-Watson Baseball Field – Go Highway 53 West past the mall and Publix. You will pass McDonald's on your left. There will be a BP Station on the right. Turn left onto Lanier Valley Road. Continue to the entrance to Lanier Pointe Park.  Ivey-Watson is the first field on the left after you enter the park.
Lake Lanier Islands Legacy GC- Go 985 S to Exit 8 (Friendship Road.  Follow signs to Lake Lanier Islands.  700 Holiday Road, Buford, GA
Lumpkin Co. High School-Take Highway 60 N. to Dahlonega.  In Dahlonega, go part of way around Square.  Take Highway 19 North.  School will be approximately 1 mile on left past middle school on right.
North Hall-Go Highway 60 North to Mt. Vernon Road (Hwy. 283).  Turn right.  Go approximately 2-3 miles.  School will be on left on Mt. Vernon Road.  4885 Mt. Vernon Road, Gainesville, GA
Oconee County High School-Go 985 S. to Exit 16.  Go left on Winder Highway (Hwy. 53). Go east on Hwy 53 through Winder.  Past Winder, take a right at the golf course.  Go approximately 20 miles from Winder. You will cross over Hwy. 316. The High School is on the right (this is still Hwy 53) about 12 miles after you cross Hwy. 316. Soccer field is at the Middle School.  From the High School, take a left at the first light (an Eckerds is on the corner).  The field is on the left.
Orchard Golf Course-I-985 N.  Go approximately 30-40 minutes past exits to Demorest and Clarksville .  Look for signs on left hand side of the highway just past Hollywood .  Turn left at 2nd billboard onto T. Smith Road .  Then turn right at the dead-end onto Historic Highway 441.  Take an immediate left onto Orchard Road and go approximately 1.5 miles to The Orchard entrance on your right.
Riverdale High School- Go 985 S. to 85 S.  Take Exit 95 A toward Macon/Augusta. Go 22.5 miles. Take I75 S. (Exit 58) toward Macon.  Go 1.7 miles and merge onto GA 85 S. to Riverdale.  Go 4.6 miles.  Turn left onto Roberts Drive.  School will be on right.  160 Roberts Drive, Riverdale, GA  30274.
South Forsyth High School-Take Hwy. 400 South to Exit 13(Peachtree Parkway/141).  At the end of the exit ramp, make a left.  You will be on 141.  After crossing over 400, proceed approximately 1/3 mile and South Forsyth High School will be on your left.

Enota Multiple Intelligences Academy is looking to upgrade its playground, adding new equipment and a shade garden.  With the help of the Enota PTA and Fockele Gardens, alumni, teachers, and friends can buy a brick in honor of someone “with whom you share fond memories of time spent at Enota.”  For more information, contact Scarlet Pendarvis at scarletlee@charter.net.
 
Any interested parties are invited to a parents of children with autism support group on Wednesday, March 28 from 6:30 – 7:30 pm at Gainesville Middle School.  Childcare and light snacks will be provided.  A Spanish translator will be available.

The 2nd semester Freshman Friday has been moved to Friday, 3/23 due to a scheduling conflict with the speakers.  There will be 2 motivational speakers and a student group called "Diplomats for Diversity" scheduled for this assembly.  The FR boys will go to the New Gym and the FR girls will go to the PAC. 
 
The Gainesville Softball Program is selling USDA Choice Cut Meats as a fundraiser for the 2012 season, and we need YOUR support.  It is as easy as this ... either see any Gainesville Softball Player or log onto www.gainesvillehssoftball.com and click on the Butcher's Choice Fundraiser on the homepage ... view the meat selections ... make your selection at the bottom of the page and pay for your meat using your debit card, credit card, e-check, or PayPal (we even can take EBT stamps).  Then all you have to do is come by the high school on Thursday, April 12th at 4:15pm (new gym lower parking lot) to pick up your selection.  Each piece of meat is individually packaged, and frozen (good for up to a year). 
 
The Northeast Georgia History Center is hosting the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia for a special day to celebrate their 100th anniversary of Girl Scouting.   Saturday, March 31, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., will be Girl Scout Day. 

On Saturday, March 24, the GHS Freshmen Class will be having a Yard Sale at 1470 Takeda Road from 9-12. Proceeds from the sale will go to the Gainesville/Hall Co. High school students who want to attend a technical school in Georgia such as Lanier Technical College must take the ASSET test. If they missed the opportunity to take the ASSET test here at GHS on February 23, 2012, there is one more opportunities to take the test. The ASSET test will be given at Lanier Technical College, Oakwood Campus, on Wednesday, April 4, at 3:00 p.m. in Bldg 300. The test takes about 2.5 hours and is free of charge. Students should call Lanier Tech at 770 531-6300 or send an email to www.laniertech.edu to schedule a test date.


The GHS girls and boys basketball teams are selling T-shirts in honor of Dr. Wendell Carpenter.  Dr. Carpenter taught at Gainesville for many years and touched so many people and students with his amazing talents in music and drama. As you may know, Dr. Carpenter fought a courageous fight against this terrible disease,  a disease that is touching many families today.  The teams would like to sell these t shirts in his honor and all the profit will be donated to the Alzheimer's Foundation in his honor.  The short sleeved shirts are $10.00 and the long sleeve t-shirts are $15.00.  Shirts come inred or pink.  Youth sizes can be special ordered.  For additional information or to order shirts, contact brenda.hill-gilmore@gcssk12.net or todd.cottrell@gcssk12.net.  Checks should be made payable to GHS/Basketball/Alzheimer's.

On April 13, 2012 the amazing Pam Ware and her talented drama troupe will be hosting Pajama Drama at the Warehouse, located at GHS. This event will be for all students in grades three, four, five, and six. The students will be there from 5:00 p.m. Friday night until 9:30 a.m. the next morning. The cost will be $50.00 for each participant, which includes dinner, breakfast, and a snack. Registration forms with complete details will be  sent home with each child in the Gainesville elementary schools and middle school.  They are also available at the GHS main office.

2012 Bike Safety Poster Contest Guidelines


● Safe Kids Gainesville/Hall County opens the contest to all 4th and
5th graders in the Gainesville City School System and the Hall County
School System.

● The theme for the contest is “Bicycles Take Me Places” with an
emphasis on bike safety.

● Entries should illustrate a message that communicates bike safety,
health and fitness or outdoor adventure.

● Size requirement for artwork submission is 11x17 – illustration
can be horizontal or vertical.

● Illustration must be an original and created by hand, copies will
not be accepted. Internet pictures or magazine pictures are not
allowed.

● An artwork submission form must be completely filled out and taped
to the back of each poster. A parent signature is also required on the
form. (Form is attached).

● Posters must be received by Bike Town U.S.A. (in Gainesville) on or
before Monday, April 16. No extensions or exceptions will be made.

● Posters will not be returned and will become the property of Safe
Kids Gainesville/Hall County.

● Posters will be judged by Safe Kids Gainesville/Hall County
coalition members and first, second and third place prizes will be
awarded. Prizes are courtesy of Bike Town U.S.A.

● Winners will be notified on Friday, April 20 and prizes can be
picked up at Bike Town U.S.A. on Saturday, April 21 between 1:00 pm –
3:00 pm.

FREE Helmet Give-a-Way Event
Safe Kids Gainesville/Hall County will also host a FREE Helmet
Give-a-Way at Bike Town U.S.A. on Saturday, April 21 from 1:00 pm –
3:00 pm. Free bike helmets will be available while supplies last to
children ages 5-12 on a first-come, first serve basis. One helmet per
child, and the child MUST be present to be properly fitted for a helmet.
No rain checks or substitutions.
 
The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce, Gainesville Area Employer Committee, Lanier Technical College and WDUN AM-FM radio will sponsor a Job Fair and Career Expo on March 28, 2012 from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. The event will be held at the Georgia Mountains Center, located at 301 main Street, SW, Gainesville, GA 30501. Employers will share information about their company and recruit qualified job seekers.

GHS had three winners in the Kiwanis Art Scholarship competition! Thuy Hanh Tran First Senior Division, Gabriel Diaz First place Sophomore Division and Kathleen Co Honorable Mention Sophomore Division. Thuy Hanh also won Best in Show with a $2,500 scholarship and Gabriel Diaz won Second Place in Best of Show with a $1,500 scholarship. Both Thuy Hanh and Gabriel will be going to state competition at West GA College.  Besides our winners GHS was well represented in the Kiwanis Art Scholarship competition with 33 students participating. You can view the exhibit until April 14 at the Quinlan Art Center.

The Results of the Choral Large Groups Performance Evaluations:

The 3rd round of the Georgia High School Air Rifle Championships was this week.    The Red Elephants shot well but lost against Elberton.      Score:  Elberton - 1118     Gainesville – 1111.  It was a great match considering that GHS had three first year shooters.      This is the first year we have been to State and to make it to the 3rd round says good things about our students/cadets.  Participants were Bianca Leija, Jonathan Alvarado, Dylan Chistel, and Kathryn Youngblook.

David Gonzalez- Pitched four no-hit innings and earned the win against Walnut Grove.
 
Shad Petree-Pitched six innings and struck out 11 in a win over Johnson.

Hartley Carter – Five goals in a win over Franklin County.
 
Golf
 
Parks Brown-Shot a 72 to win individual honors at the Hall County Golf Championships.
 
Grant Lasseter-Scored a 75 at the Hall County Championships.
 
Pep Brown-Carded a 70 in a tournament at Chateau Elan.
 
Jackson Bishop-Carded a 72 in a tournament at Chateau Elan.
 
Morgan Reece-Shot a 78 to win individual honors at the Hall County Golf Championships.
 
Track
 
Marcquel Woodard-First in the 1600 and 800 in a meet at Gordon Central.
 
GHS Grad and current North Georgia College sophomore Jaymee Carnes was named a Division II All-American.
