September 7, 2005 Board of Director's Meeting

The September meeting of the Board of Directors was held on September 7, 2005 at Centennial Arts Academy. The meeting was called to order by the President, Amanda Mercer.
A Papa John’s Pizza representative presented the board with a complimentary lunch and presented the board with different fundraising opportunities for the PTA. A School Night where the advertisements would be make to the school and 10% of net sales would be donated to Centennial. A $10 pizza coupon booklet where $7 of the coupon booklet would be donated to the school. Award certificates for teachers for a large three piece pizzas to be given each year and honor roll certificates for students to be given at each quarter.
Susan Gilliam’s Report: Susan presented the board with a video that was used during preplanning. The teachers are studying and reading “Worksheets don’t Build Boundaries”.This is being facilitated by Gwen Hudgins. The children are studying “Thinking Maps”. These help with organization of thoughts. The Centennial website has a new look.
Charlene William’s Report: ITBS is next week and conferences are coming up shortly. Parents can ask for more specific CRCT results from the teachers.
Treasurer’s Report: Cooper Embry presented the budget and asked that all receipts to be turned in soon. When monies are deposited in the PTA drawer please label the monies as you leave it. There is extra money to buy a computer. Amanda called for a motion to purchase a new computer. Elizabeth Embry made the first motion for a vote and Ellen Scott seconded. The motion was approved by the board.
Fundraising: Ellen Scott and Elizabeth Embry reported that Cherrydale is going well.
T-shirts: Ashley Linville and Jeannine Callahan are reordering t-shirts and are ordering a kacki longsleeve t-shirt. Also, hats and license plates are ordered and they are looking at several other items as well. They are setting up hours to sell items before and after school.
Grademother: Stacy King reported all classes have grademothers.
Fun Run: Tamara Willman and Christine Madonna reported that 45 participants have registered and they have received t-shirt bids. The children will receive medals. There is some concern of intimidation felt by students to finish so there is an emphasis that kids can walk, run or hop. This is for the children to have FUN.
Art Auction: Patti Munn is looking for donations from the community. A family dinner will be held with the auction.
Yearbook: Kristine Alexander reported the deadline for the yearbook cover is November 1, 2005.
YMCA: Reported that on September 22 an Academy Awards and Dinner for the families will be held. Things are going well. The kids are participating in Jazzercize and Japanese. There are lots of activity choices where there is 1 counselor to 12 students.
Vice President: Sheli Jones reported that the WWF will be known as the Centennial Work Force. It will be more convenient and organized. A volunteer sign up sheet is going home with students. Volunteers can have a choice of helping with CRCT tests, reading with students, and math facts.
New Business:
Centennial Night at CC’s Pizza is on the first Thursday of each month and 10% is donated to the school.
Kelly Russso made a Katrina Relief Fundraiser presentation to the PTA board. After discussion, it was realized that the each grade in the school had already adopted their own fundraiser activity for Katrina victims.
