August 10, 2005 Board of Director's Meeting

The August meeting of the Board of Directors was held on August 10, 2005 at Centennial Arts Academy.  The meeting was called to order by the President, Amanda Mercer.

Introductions were made by members of the Board. Reports were called for.

Susan Gilliam’s Report: Susan reported the first day of school went well.  The computers ordered have been put on backorder due to problem with screens.  The tables for staff development are here and Uptown Fitness is offering memberships for 6 weeks for sale and $75 will be donated  to the school. The “Brick Fundraiser” will be held and a child’s name can be printed on a brick.  There are @400 bricks and they will be laid around the school.  The money raised will offset the cost of the mural artist.

Treasurer’s Report: Cooper Embry reported the balance is $16,000. $5,000 will be paid for the new stage & a few bills need to be taken care of so the balance will be reduced below $10,000.

Nearly New: Susan Leneski reported they raised $306.

Clothes Closet: Charlene Willliams reported the school bought $300 worth of clothing from Top of the Line clothing store at its closing.  The clothes closet does need coats and smaller clothing.

Fundraising: Elizabeth Embry and Kristine Alexander reported the start of the Cherrydale Fundraiser will begin on August 31st.

T-shirts: Ashley Linville reported the t-shirts will be presented at the first PTA meeting and the “Dress Code” will sell the t-shirts too.  Jeannine Callahan reported the t-shirts will be available for  “Spirit Day”.

Hospitality: Anna Dempsey thanked everyone who provided breakfast for the teachers.

New Student Hospitality: Renae Ackerman reported the school tours for new parents and students relieved Susan Gilliam and Renae presented a “no black tie” fundraiser idea to the Board.  It involves sending an invitation asking for a donation only.

Book Fair: Molly Rooks reported the book fair will be held November 7-11,2005.

Parent Volunteers: Ann Goble reported yellow parent volunteer forms are being sent home with the students and the list of parent volunteers will be available at the September Board Meeting.

Reflections: Priscilla McKinnon reported the theme this year will be “I Wonder Why”.

Teacher Representative: Tracy Wilson thanked the PTA for their help and Amanda Mercer and Mary Margaret Calvert reported a newly decorated teacher’s lounge was almost ready for the teachers’ use.

Fun Run: Tamara Willman and Kristine Madonna reported the First Fun Run for Kids is underway.  The date of the run is Saturday, October 15th.  The cost per family is $25 /$10 individual and $15 on the day of the race.  The race will begin at 9:20AM for K-2nd grade and 9AM for 3rd-5th.  A t-shirt art contest for 3rd-5th grades will be held.  Forms will be sent home with children and they are considering a bake sale too.  Ideas are welcome.

Box Tops: Kim Couch reported the PTA makes ten cents per top and the PTA needs to get Publix cards to hand out for fundraising too.

YMCA: Kathy Childers reported the YMCA Fall Festival will be held on November 3, 2005.

All business was completed and the meeting was adjourned.
